Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 September 2026

These are the rules for using MitMate. Plain language on purpose — if you cannot understand what you are agreeing to, it is not a fair agreement.

The short version

Who can use MitMate

What MitMate is — and is not

MitMate is an introduction service. We show people to each other based on what they tell us about budget, area and how they live. That is all it does.

Check your lease before you list

Most leases restrict subletting, lease takeovers and adding occupants. Before you advertise a space, confirm your landlord or property manager allows it, and get any approval they require in writing. Listing a space you are not permitted to let is between you and your landlord, and it can cost you your own tenancy.

Fair housing

Housing discrimination is illegal, and it is not welcome here. Do not write listings, profiles or messages stating a preference for or against anyone based on race, colour, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, familial status (including having children), or disability.

Describe the space and how you live: quiet hours, guests, cleanliness, pets, smoking, work schedule, whether the kitchen is vegetarian. Do not describe who you will not live with. “No kids”, or naming a religion or nationality, is not a preference — it is an advertisement we will remove.

Some rules work differently for somebody choosing a roommate for their own home, and those exceptions vary by state and city. We apply one standard across MitMate rather than asking you to guess which applies to you.

What you post

Things you must not do

Money and safety

MitMate never handles payments and will never ask you for one. Meet in person or on video, see the place, meet the people, and read the paperwork before any money moves. Be especially careful with wire transfers, gift cards and payment apps, which are close to impossible to reverse. If somebody pressures you to pay quickly, report them with the shield icon.

Reports, blocks and moderation

Anyone can block or report anyone else, from a match card or from a conversation. We read reports, and we may remove content, suspend an account, or close it permanently. We do not have to explain a decision in detail, and we do not tell somebody who reported them. Reports are kept after an account is deleted, so a pattern of behaviour cannot be erased by signing up again.

We are a small service, not a 24-hour moderation team. If somebody is threatening you, or you are in danger, contact the police first.

Your account

You can delete your account at any time from Your account → Delete my account. It is immediate and permanent. Messages you have already sent stay in the other person’s conversation, the same way sent email does. The Privacy Policy has the detail.

Free while we are small

MitMate is free today. If we ever charge for anything we will say so clearly before you are asked to pay, and nothing you have already posted will be held behind a payment.

No warranty

MitMate is provided “as is”. We do not promise it will always be available, that suggestions will be accurate, or that somebody you meet through it will be honest, solvent, or good to live with. You decide who you meet, who you live with, and what you sign.

Limits on what we owe you

To the fullest extent the law allows, MitMate is not liable for what members do, for disputes between roommates, for losses from a housing arrangement you make, or for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

If you use MitMate in a way that breaks these rules or the law, and that costs us money, you are responsible for those costs.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, and disputes belong to the courts located there. MitMate is intended for use in the United States.

Changes to these terms

If the rules change we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use MitMate after that means you accept the new terms.
